Invitation

October 2001

It is a great pleasure to announce that the next 13th Asian Pacific Corrosion Control Conference will be held in Osaka, Japan, November 16-21, 2003.

It is well recognized that the Asian-Pacific area is the most important growing center of the world economy in the 21st century. Rapid growth is expected in the various sectors of industries including chemical, iron and steel, electronics, automobile, nuclear power, civil and architecture, information industry and so on. With growing economy, the corrosion loss becomes serious and could not be ignored in the national economy. In Japan, the cost of corrosion was estimated at 1997 to be c.a. 5,300 billion yen which was equivalent to 1.03% of GNP. Such huge amount of corrosion loss could not be saved without intensive research and development as well as education in corrosion. Cooperation and information exchange within the Asian-Pacific area will contribute to reduce the cost of corrosion. Scientists and engineers will be anticipated to join the combat against corrosion and for saving the natural resources and energy. The conference will focus on New Frontier in Corrosion Science and Technology which covers nano-technology to macro science and engineering.

On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to invite all of you to the 13th Asian Pacific Corrosion Control Conference (APCCC-13). I look forward to seeing you in Osaka, Japan.

Sincerely yours,

Noboru Masuko
Chairman of Organizing Committee of APCCC-13
