Information about the kick-off meeting of AM Research Association”

For researchers, engineers, and managers interested in Additive Manufacturing (AM)

I am Takayoshi Nakano (currently Chairman of the Japan Institute of Metals and Materials), who was appointed as the chairperson of the AM Research Association.

Thank you for your continued support. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the many people who participated in this committee, including over 60 companies and over 20 universities, research institutes, and public institutions, even though the committee was set up on short notice from February 2022.

The AM Research Association was established on April 1, 2022 as one of the industry-academia collaborative research groups of the Japan Institute of Metals.

By building AM academics and technology beyond the framework of industry, academia, and government, and even academic associations, this study group will make full use of digital technology to widely disseminate AM technology in Japan and strengthen Japan’s manufacturing industry. The purpose is to contribute.

The JIAM handles a wide range of materials including metals, polymers, ceramics, glass, resins, cells, and composite materials of these materials. In the future, we will regularly hold AM-related events such as “Research and Development Trend Surveys,” “Regular Study Groups,” “Regular Seminars,” and “Symposiums,” as well as provide policy recommendations to the government and summarize the activities of the Science Council of Japan. We aim to establish the “Japan AM Society” within four years.

In line with this, we have decided to hold a hybrid kick-off meeting at Osaka University’s Suita Campus on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm (scheduled). On the day, the guests included Professor Susumu Kuwabata, Dean of the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University, and Tetsuya Tanaka, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (in charge of the Industrial Technology and Environment Bureau). The chairman, Takayoshi Nakano, spoke about the purpose and outline of the study group, and also talked about metals. In addition to an introduction to tissue control using AM and a lecture on the current state of AM technology from Vice Chairman Atsushi Maekawa, we are also planning a lecture by Masahiko Mori, President and Representative Director of DMG Mori Seiki Co., Ltd.

We hope that you will use this site as a means of gathering information and educating those who are interested in AM.

We look forward to your participation.

We currently have applications from over 400 participants, so please note that we may not be able to accommodate you on-site.
